Verse: Rebuffed

Once I wrote
I love you
in the soft
unsullied sand
but the jealous sea
came racing in
to erase it
with its mighty hand

So I wrote
I love you
in a bottle
and commended
it to the sea
three months
have passed since then
and it has not
answered me
